Cattle Hair grass or Dwarf Hair grass (Eleocharis Parvula) is a popular choice when it comes to adding plant life to your aquarium. This extremely versatile plant is commonly used to “carpet” areas of tanks and gives off a seaweed-like vibe, making the motion in the aquarium very obvious.

Like many other aquatic plants, Cattle Hair grass deploys runners throughout the substrate (or gravel), which will accelerate both the growth and the spread of the plant. For substrate, choose a soil solution with small granule size, as these will be easier for the dwarf hair grass to absorb nutrients.

Cattle Hair grass is fairly neutral when it comes to maintenance, you may want to trim it back a little if it gets out of hand.  As with most other aquarium plants, increased carbon dioxide (CO2) levels and plant fertilizers will result in faster growth.

At a temperature of 25 C the seeds can take up to 7 days to germinate.  At around 13 days after germination the plant should reach a basic shape suitable for aquarium landscaping.
