These valves are meant to be screwed into pvc pipe. Often used with a linear air piston pump to run an air loop around a room filled with aquariums. Build your own custom gang valve using these. These last a lifetime and are used by most fish stores and fish breeding facilities.

Sold by SPECIALIST AQUATICSI have used these airline valves extensively in my own fish room and they are fantastic. They offer a much better fit than the plastic ones and although they are more expensive than the plastic option, you get a much better result at the end of the day and your air pump will run a lot more efficiently as their will be far more loss or air due to any leaks or misfits in the air loop.
This is not a common item in South Africa and you will never find this in a pet store or even on any other local online stores. (Except here at Specialist Aquatics!)
Instructions:
Simply use a HSS (High Speed Steel) 5mm drill bit, in a electric drill to drill a hole in the PVC pipe. Then using a little bit of pressure force down on the valve into the hole and turn clockwise at the same time to get the thread started. If find this to difficult, then the valve can be placed into the chuck of the drill and set the drill to the slowest speed. The hole it into the hole with the drill and very slow let the drill do the work.
If you find the valve is a bit lose in the hole you can add some Teflon plumbers tape around the thread and screw it back in again.
